"Do all you can with what have, in the time you have, in the place you are"
Its not easy to make an impact - but with determination and courage one can change the world.
With only 12 years on the planet - Nkosi in the early 2000's was the longest surviving HIV-positive born child. Born in South Africa in 1989 he was diagnosed with AIDS very early on. His mother was suffering from AIDS and was to weak and poor to care for herself and him. This was the time where there was a lot of mystery and fear related to AIDS. The treatments - although a little advance now at this time were expensive and rarely accessible to the poor.
At the age 8, Nkosi was refused admission by a Johannesburg school which set off a furious debate. This brought Nkosi to limeling and he became a poske person for all AIDS sufferers especially children.
in 2000, Nkosi made a powerful speech at the 13th International AIDS Conference in Durban and made the point that AIDS cannot be passed on by touching and hugging.
Nkosi left us in 2001 but his learnings for all of us will resonate for ever.
